Target Level: Elite level, Junior level, Intermediate level

Preparation time: Less than 5 minutes
OCAD Required: No
Min participants: 2

Map memory exercise in which two runners run together. At the start, the first runner memorizes the leg to the first control - then gives the map to the second runner. The first runner then runs to the first control - the second runner memorizes the leg to the second control while running behind. At the second control, the first runner gets the map again. Continue this way through the course, never stopping at the control.

Aim: Get better at (a) memorizing the map and (b) picking out which details to memorize. See also Map memory.
Variants: To make it more difficult, allow the runner behind to memorize for only a short period of time.
Aids: None required.
Terrain: Any terrain can do.
Preparations: Make a normal course.
Tips: Vary the difficulty. Start with short legs, then increase length of legs and difficulty/complexity. It is important to focus on the simplification in the map memory.
