Orienteering Exercise: Map memory

Key information
Exercise Type: Map memory, Concentration
Target Level: Elite level, Junior level, Intermediate level
Intensity: Low, Medium
Preparation time: 5-15 minutes
OCAD Required: No
Min participants: 1

The runner gets a map showing the next control, and must memorize the leg. At each control, the runner gets another control.

Aim: Get better at (a) memorizing the map and (b) picking out which details to memorize.
Variants: You may restrict the time the runner can watch the map. Another variant reducing the preparation work is to let the runner carry the map with him/her, but only being allowed to look at it at the controls.
Aids:
Terrain: Any terrain may do.
Preparations: Make a one map for each leg, and place the map at the controls.
Tips: Do not make it too difficult, or you may loose some runners already to the first control, them getting nothing out of the training.
Examples:
The runner gets a map showing the next control, and must memorize the leg. At each control, the runner gets another control.
