Build up an accurate feeling for distance evaluation in different terrain types using your GPS. Try to run a specified distance in the forest (without looking at your map or GPS), e.g. 100 meters, and check your GPS when you think you have run this distance. Repeat in different terrain types / on paths etc.

Aim: It is important to know how far you have moved on the map when moving a certain distance in the terrain, especially when running in featureless terrain. Building up a good feeling for this is important.
Variants: See also the Step counting exercise.
Aids: GPS is neeeded for this exercise. No map is needed, however.
Terrain: Different terrain types should be explored, but especially flat terrain.
Preparations:
Tips: Note that in Sweden you are currently allowed to use your GPS directly in the forest.
