The best orienteers have a high map reading frequency, i.e. they look at the map very often, reading the map at close to maximum speed. Reading a map, a book or a comic while running is a good exercise in order to train map reading frequency. Beginners can run slowly on a road with focus on map reading while running - higher level runners can run in the forest in high speed.
