The best orienteers read the map at close to maximum speed. They also have a high map reading frequency, i.e. they look at the map very often. Reading a book or a comic (or even a map) while running is a good exercise in order to train map reading frequency.
Aim: | Learn to read the map in high speed. Increase map reading frequency. |

Variants: | Beginners can run slowly on a road with focus on map reading while running - higher level runners can run in the forest in high speed. |
Aids: | Map, book or comic required. |
Terrain: | Terrain depends on skills. Use a flat road for beginners, tougher terrain for more skilled orienteers. |
Preparations: | Find a book, a comic or other competition maps. |
Tips: | Combine this exercise with theoretical route choice training to get two exercises in one. |
