Orienteering Exercise: Attackpoint identification training
Key information
A special course is made in OCAD in which the area around the control is whited out. The runner must identify an attackpoint outside the whited out area, use the compass to get through the whited out area and into the control circle, and then orienteer accurately the last part to the control location.
Aim: | There are three aims with this training: (1) To be able to identify attackpoints. (2) To train the ability to take an accurate compass course from the attackpoint and into the control circle. (3) Focus on the fine orienteering inside the control circle. |
---|---|
Variants: | In another variant of this training, the attackpoint is marked with a small ring on the map. This attackpoint may either be marked or not marked in the terrain. See also Small circle - Big circle which has some similarities to this training. |
Aids: | Need OCAD to make this training. See Tips_on_OCAD_usage for tips on how to make o-trainings in OCAD. |
Terrain: | The control placement should not be in the most hilly parts of the terrain. |
Preparations: | Make the course. |
Tips: | It is important that the runner knows the goal of the training - if not the runner will often not focus on the attackpoint. A follow-up training could be without whited-out area, but still with focus on the attackpoint (could be in a normal competition). |
